Today I took my class on a field trip to see the Wizard of Oz on stage. I was expecting a play, but it turned out to be a musical, a very unique musical. I wasn't 100% satisfied with my purchase or my experience. Not only was the show not what it was billed as (it was billed as a play, not as a musical), the theater staff was not organized.
The theater's website says that it validates parking. So three of our chaperone/drivers got there before the other three and had their parking validated. The other three drivers, myself included, took our parking tickets to get validated and they said they wouldn't do it, only for members. I complained to three different people and finally got someone to validate our parking. I kept getting different answers or partial answers from these people. I'm not sure I want to deal with them again for a field trip.
The show didn't include the songs you usually think of when you think of the Wizard of Oz, like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" or the others. It was, I guess, modernized and had dance numbers. And it left out so much and what it did have was rearranged and out of the expected order. I think I'll stick with the classics, or make sure I keep a very open mind about what I'm expecting. But for this show, I was very disappointed as it fell short of my expectations and did not draw me in to the story. It was just so-so.
I'm kind of bummed out. :(
